The Syracuse Crunch took on the Utica Comets tonight at the War Memorial at OnCenter in Syracuse, NY. The rivals battled all game long, but Kristers Gudlevskis proved the hero with a 47 save effort, as the Crunch defeated the Comets by a score of 2-1. He seemed to be back to his Olympian form, making quite a few incredible saves, at times seeming to literally stand on his head.
The 22nd season of Syracuse Crunch hockey started with high hopes as the Crunch took on their Rte. 81 rivals, the Binghamton Senators. Kristers Gudlevskis earned the win with 27 saves and Jeff Tambellini scored both of Syracuse’s goals in the 2-1 win. Although both teams seemed to be sizing each other up for much of the game, there was plenty of action and great plays by both sides and each goalie looked sharp in net.
It was a sad finish to an otherwise promising season. The Crunch lost 12 of their last 13 games and were swept in Round 1 of the Calder Cup playoffs. The final game featured some great battles, but in the end, the momentum was too much to overcome. The last month of hockey for Syracuse will hopefully provide a lot of lessons for talented, but young team.
Beer & hockey. It’s just about the most perfect pairing I can imagine. I’ve been pairing brews local to the teams I’m rooting for in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Currently, I’m watching the Chicago Blackhawks play the Minnesota Wild. While visiting Chicago roughly eight and a half years ago, I was able to visit Goose Island Brewery, so I thought it appropriate to root for the ‘Hawks with a Goose Island Honker’s Ale.
The Syracuse Crunch played their last home game of the season last night at the Onondaga County War Memorial at OnCenter. Unfortunately, the Crunch lost in the shootout although it was a pretty exiting game throughout.
